This is a little older - some more Kinect data we may implement with the visuals.

Here’s that youtube video from Ryan.

Here’s a new still from our programmer Ryan, experimenting with getting some of the Kinect data directly to the projections. Really awesome stuff.
Also from Ryan, if you’re making your own Kinect/Ableton project, be sure to check out his youtube video on getting Kinect Data to directly control Ableton parameters - in this video for dubstep style control. These Max for Live patches are going to be made publicly available. And the UI is super friendly.

Here’s what it’ll look like on Playa. But with more frills.

So what is Synapse?

Infinite Intimate Connections

Synapse is an interactive project designed to celebrate the infinite intimate connections between people. We want to encourage a state of euphoria through play, sexuality, tribal dance, and flow. One “player” unlocks the music and psychedelic projections by dancing within the soundscape in front of a Kinect camera. The audience is situated in a comfortable environment to soak in the audio/visual experience.

The installation goes through four stages.

Play - Kids: Laughing children, playful bursts of color, and playful music

Intimate - Sex: Heavy breathing and moaning, internal sounds of the body, visuals of fire, faces, and intimate close ups, thick dance music

Tribal - Gaia: Natural sounds of the forest, mandalas created with natural footage of water and earth, tribal percussion music

Flow - Cosmic: Frequencies and feedback loops, spacey drone, solfeggio healing frequencies, cosmic mandalas and fractals

Let me introduce you to the main team!

I’m Robin Arnott - my last project was “Deep Sea”, pictured above. It was an experiment in immersion using negative feelings (fear, suffocation) - for me Synapse is a departure into much more positive/euphoric territory. Professionally, I’m a sound designer at WRAUGHK

Elijah Parker is our visual designer. He comes on board with a great deal of practical experience in abstract/euphoric art. His work at Subliminal Phoenix is awesome, and you should check it out.

Ryan Challinor, (above, as last sighted by the press) is the man who makes Synapse work! Professionally, Ryan’s a programmer at Harmonix, and he comes up with intelligent solutions for Elijah’s and my weird impractical ideas.
